HistoryFounding the ChapterIn February 8, 1988, Yvonne DeGraw, Patricia English, and September Blanchard sent a letter to all STC members in the Santa Barbara area, asking them to attend a meeting on February 25, 1988 to explore the possibility of forming a local STC chapter. All three of the meeting organizers worked at what was then called Signal Technology, Inc. Their goal was to form a group of local technical communicators with whom they could learn and share ideas. Twenty people attended the meeting, and Ernie Tamminga gave a talk on "Making the Transition to Management." Meeting attendees signed an application for chapter status. Current chapters members who signed this original application are: M. Noel Becker, Cynthia Brock, Yvonne DeGraw, Patricia English, Ann Holms, LeeAnne Kryder, Hugh Marsh, and Joan Mitchell. STC officially approved the chapter's formation in April 1988. | ||||||||
